About Steven

Steven Murdoch profile picture

Steven specialises in thoughtful, nervous-system-aware treatment for jaw tension and chronic pain. His approach is calm, steady and centred around helping you feel truly heard and understood.

Having lived with persistent pain himself, Steven knows how frustrating and isolating it can feel to search for answers. That experience is a big part of what shaped the way he works today — slower, safer, more grounded, and focused on helping your body feel more at ease.

He trained to the highest level of massage in the UK (BTEC Level 6) and has completed extensive additional training in TMJ dysfunction, myofascial release, and chronic pain. But what people tend to appreciate most is his presence: the way he listens, the lack of pressure, and the sense of relief and confidence they feel after a session.

If you’re looking for personalised, genuinely collaborative support —  this way of working is likely to suit you.

What Clients Say

I’ve been dealing with TMJ pain for a couple of years and have struggled to find the right support through the NHS, often feeling unheard and dismissed.

After doing my own research into more holistic approaches, I came across Steven Murdoch and decided to book an appointment for myofascial therapy.

My first session was a genuinely positive experience. Steven listened closely to my symptoms and concerns, showing real empathy and understanding.

The environment felt warm and supportive, and he provided exercises for me to work on between sessions.

I even slept better that night than I have in a long time, which felt like a real sign of progress….

FAQ

Are sessions painful?

Sessions are designed to be calm, and supportive. Nothing is forced, rushed, or intentionally painful.

Whether we’re working online or in person, everything happens at your pace. If something doesn’t feel comfortable or right for you, we adjust. The focus is on supporting ease and understanding, not pushing through discomfort.

Many people find this approach helpful for easing jaw tension, discomfort, and related symptoms — particularly when stress, habits, posture, or overall load on the body are playing a role.

Sessions focus on understanding your individual experience and offering tailored guidance or treatment, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all solution. As with any supportive care, responses vary from person to person.

Yes — many people experience meaningful relief as tension eases in the jaw, neck and surrounding areas. A combination of hands-on work and simple awareness-based techniques can make a real difference over time.

If you’re unsure which option is right for you, you’re very welcome to book a short telephone discovery call. This gives you space to briefly talk through what’s been going on and ask any questions before deciding how you’d like to proceed.

If you already feel clear, an initial online consultation is often a helpful starting point, offering time to explore your symptoms and clarify next steps. In-person treatment may be more appropriate if you’re specifically looking for hands-on care.

There’s no pressure to choose the “right” option straight away — we can take things step by step and adjust as needed.

There’s no fixed number of sessions. Some people find a small number of sessions helpful, while others prefer ongoing support over time.

This depends on your symptoms, goals, and how things change between sessions. We’ll regularly check in and review what feels useful, so you’re not committing to anything open-ended or unnecessary.

Although the focus is on jaw symptoms, sessions often consider the jaw, face, neck, shoulders, and wider body, where relevant.

Online sessions focus on discussion, observation, and guided exploration. In-person sessions may include hands-on work in areas that feel appropriate and supportive for you on the day.

No diagnosis is required to book a session.

This work is not a medical or diagnostic service, and it doesn’t replace medical care. If you’re already under medical or dental care, sessions can often sit alongside that support. If medical assessment is needed, this can be discussed and signposted.

Yes. Sessions are commonly chosen by people who feel anxious, sensitive, or cautious about treatment.

Everything is guided by consent, communication, and pacing. There’s no expectation to tolerate discomfort or push beyond what feels manageable. Creating a sense of safety and ease is a central part of how sessions are approached.
